Side Notes: For many years, people thought this song was connected to a German religious reformer named Martin Luther. However, evidence suggests that “Away in a Manger” is entirely an American product. The original two-stanza song likely came from German Lutherans in Pennsylvania about 1885. My favorite experience with this song was when I had the chance to perform my arrangement from my book “A Christmas Gift” with the Salt Lake Symphony. Once you have mastered this song, I would challenge you to try that arrangement
