Side Notes: This song was written on the last night we were in the house that my kids grew up in. We’d lived in the home for 16 years. We had brought 3 of my 4 children to this house from the hospital as babies, and there were so many memories from our time there. Moving often comes with mixed emotions. We felt that it was time for us to move, but there is always a bit of sadness when you leave a place you’ve grown to love, especially when it has felt like home. The last night in the house, at about 11 P.M., I sat down and this song came out as I was feeling the emotions of knowing this was the last time I’d play piano in that house. Still when I play it, I can feel a little bit of excitement and a little bit of sadness that was being felt that night at the piano. When you play piano, I hope that you can tap into your own emotions or the emotions others around you might be feeling. If you can learn to do this, it will make your time at the piano so much more enjoyable to you and anyone who listens to you play. Many people have told me my music has helped them find comfort and many use the word “healing” to describe how my music makes them feel. As we each go through emotional roller coasters in life, the highs and the lows, may this music help you and others find peace, comfort, and if only in a small way, help you heal from whatever pain you or others might be feeling.
