Side Notes: The lyrics and melody to this song are one of my favorites. I remember listening to this song when I was a child and the line that always stood out to me was “there were some who did not understand”. I think that phrase has even more significance today, but at times I feel like there are many people who refuse to “try” to understand their neighbor and often times aren’t even willing to “listen” to someone that might not be like them. There are so many things one can learn from studying the life of Jesus. For me, the idea of loving your neighbor and “trying” to understand and also “love” your neighbor is the thing that we could most benefit from in today’s world of quick judgement from social media and popular opinions that somehow are assigned to a person based on one statement or association. When something positive comes along in our life, I hope we will recognize the value of the positive and not ignore or dismiss when there is something special that we are able to observe or be part of.
