Side Notes: I started this song at the very end of 2022. The melody came to me as I was reflecting back on the previous year, the things that had been accomplished, and the many people who were involved in that journey. Sometimes we don’t feel like we are making progress, but when we take time to look back, we often realize our small steps have taken us further than we realize. People talk about enjoying the journey, but far too often I think we forget to enjoy the small steps along the way. Small steps are what make us appreciate the journey. When it comes to healing, the small steps are often what matter most. Being able to recognize the small wins, and celebrate them when they happen, can make all the difference. Not only is it important to recognize our own progress with small steps, but when we can learn to recognize, appreciate and celebrate the small steps of others, we can have an opportunity to serve and make an even bigger impact on our families and friends.
