I just released a new piano solo single titled Lake Louise and I’m super excited to share this song with everyone. It’s been awhile since I’ve released just a plain old piano solo. I’ve had so many amazing opportunities over the past year to collaborate with other artists and I feel like I’ve learned so much.

This first heard this song while I was on a hike this past summer in Canada along the Lake Louise trail. I’d been to this awesome place almost 20 years earlier on a family trip and remembered walking to the end of the lake and seeing all of the rock climbers on the cliffs. I was climbing all the time at that stage of my life and it nearly killed me to not be able to spend any time at the rocks. As we walked back down the path that day, I said to myself that I’d be back and the next time I came back I’d have my climbing gear with me.

We brought the whole family with us, including my four kids. My brother in law Randon and I did the first climbs and then we setup two ropes for the kids to climb on. Everyone made it to the top and had a great time. When you made it to the top of the climbs we were on, you were a few feet above the tree tops and it allowed you to look out at the lake, the cliffs opposite the lake and the amazing lodge at the other end of the lake. It’s a view that most people don’t ever get a chance to see.

I was able to check that bucket list item from my list and at the end of the day. As I was carrying my three year old Linzie back on the long hike, I was reminded that the last time I’d walked this path I was with my dad. He loved the mountains and I know he would have loved spending the day with us. Maybe he was there. All I know is the tune to this song popped into my mind and I ended up singing it all the way back on the 40+ minute walk.

I sung the tune into my phone several times and when I got back from Canada I was able to pull up the recording and the song came right back to me. I was able to write it down and it is included in my new piano song book Piano Reflections that you can check out here.
