Side Notes: This arrangement combines three of my favorite Easter songs into a piano solo medley. Each hymn is a classic public domain hymn that can be found in hundreds of hymn books for various denominations. The main featured tune in this arrangement is “Christ the Lord is Risen Today”. This hymn is from an anonymous Davidica tune written around 1708 and the text is by Charles Wesley (1707-1708). The second hymn, “He is Risen” is by Joachim Neander (1650-1680) and text by Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895). The final tune featured is, “In the Garden”, a song written in 1912 by C Austin Miles and featured in dozens of hymn books, and talks of Mary’s experience in seeing the resurrected Savior in the garden. I finished the medley with the first tune, and intent of celebrating and rejoicing in the good news of the resurection of the Messiah.

This arrangement could possibly be used with a choir, but it was intended to be played as a piano solo and musical number for Easter services. Some of my favorite performances of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” include trumpets and brass instruments, and I tried my best to bridge the sound of trumpets with what the piano can do as a solo instrument. I hope this can be an arrangement that is enjoyed year round, but most especially to celebrate the Easter Holiday.

This is a digital PDF of Easter Medley, arranged by Jason Tonioli.
