It is Well With My Soul – Piano Solo PDF Sheet Music

$3.99

This hymn’s lyrics were written by Horatio Spafford after multiple traumatic events in his life. The first happened in 1871, when his four year old son died. The second was caused by the Great Chicago Fire, which ruined him financially after having been a successful lawyer who had significant investments in property damaged by the fire. In 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family, but was delayed on business due to zoning problems following the fire. He sent his family ahead on a different ship. While his family was crossing the Atlantic without him, the ship the family was on sunk rapidly after a collision with another sea vessel and all four of Spafford’s daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him a telegram that said, “Saved alone…”. Shortly after receiving the telegram he traveled to meet his grieving wife and was inspired to write the words to this song as his ship passed over the location where his duaghters had been lost at sea.

As I worked on this arrangement, I tried to include the sound of the ocean, a grieving family, and the sense of hope in God and life after we have passed on. The message that “All is Well” is a message we all need to remember at many times throughout our life on this earth.

This is written as a piano solo, but I included the lyrics to add more meaning when you play and as an option someone could sing to.
