Midnight (Piano Solo) from “Healing Piano” by Jason Tonioli

The melody to this song popped into my head about 12:15 AM one night when I was on the verge of going to sleep. It kept running through my head to the point I finally climbed out of bed and made my way to a piano that I could put headphones on and play. The tune and rough sketch came together in about an hour, and I finally felt good enough about it to head to sleep around 1:35 AM. One of the things I’ve found about music is that when you have a good song idea come to you, you have to capture it as soon as you are able because if you don’t you will almost always forget it later.

Many of my favorite songs have come when I was in very inconvenient spots to record or make a note. I’ve made hundreds of short audio recordings singing or whistling song ideas that I can come back to later. I think there is a lesson to be learned from this that can apply to every single person. When we have an idea, a prompting, or a nudge to do something, if we are willing to do that thing, without fail, I think we are more likely to receive future promptings or nudges. When I’ve ignored those nudges or ideas, it always seems to get harder and harder to be able to hear future songs, future opportunities to serve to the point where we are rarely given those gifts or ideas in the future.
