I decided to do an arrangement of this classic hymn after it was suggested by one of my fans on Facebook. As I started listening to other arrangements and then started to play around with the tune, I couldn’t help but notice the similarity to part of the melody and chord progressions in the song Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. I have no idea if the composer, HR Palmer, the composer of Precious Savior Dear Redeemer received a little inspiration from the melody on that tune, because it’s such a memorable series of notes and chords. Maybe a little hint from the spirit guided his writing of the tune. This is one of the lesser known hymns I really started to enjoy as I was putting the arrangement together.
Some of the harmonies in this tune made me feel like it needed to shift keys during several moments of the song. Hopefully the flats and sharps don’t scare you away from playing and enjoying the song. I did include several courtesy accidentals so it should be easier to play or sight read as the keys change.
