About this Song:
Side Notes: This song was written in 1919, just after the composer’s son was committed to a mental hospital and then passed away. As I read the words to this hymn, I could see it was a humble prayer from someone seeking answers and pleading to help him understand His ways. I modified a few words in the first verse and end of the song. I added additional lyrics that kept coming to my mind as the tune played over and over in my head. These modifications show how I sometimes feel when searching for answers in my life.
When it comes to prayer, sometimes we might think we know what we want or need, but answers don’t always come in ways we expect or hope for. Sometimes answers take weeks, months, or even years, before we are able to look back at a situation and see that God answered our prayer in the way which was best for us. Some people come to the conclusion that God doesn’t hear them, only to find out later, that our prayer was answered through “unanswered” prayers, in ways they learn and grow from. By being more patient, humble, and trusting in a loving Father in Heaven who cares about and loves each of His children, we can find positive things, no matter what comes our way. Read the lyrics to yourself as you play this and I am certain it will become one of your favorites.
