About this Song:
Side Notes: The words to this song were written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748). Watts is credited with writing more than 700 hymns, many of which are still sung today. These words come from Psalms 23, ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want’. The tune for this hymn is an Appalachian folk tune titled ‘Resignation’ and the composer is unknown. The last line of this Psalm “and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever,” is rephrased in the hymn to say “No more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home.” I love this interpretation and hope that we will all feel at home with the Lord in the future. I’m certain we will not feel like a stranger when our time comes to pass to the next life and hope we feel as we did when we were children and knew we were both loved and safe at home.
