About this book
Nearly 20 years ago, I decided to combine the 10 original songs I had written into a spiral bound book. I decided to print 50 copies that I could hopefully give away over the coming years. For the cover, I had a wedding photographer friend who had just taken a picture of a bouquet of flowers held by a bride. I decided that since a bride might be able to use my music on a wedding video, that the title for that book could be Wedding Day.
I can still remember walking into my local piano store with one of the 50 copies I had printed, with the goal of giving it to my friend at the store who had earlier helped sell me a digital Yamaha Clavinova. Since I had written most of these songs on that piano, I wanted to share my music with him and say thank you.
At that point in my life, it was the early 2000’s. My experience with recording music had included using a tape recorder to record a barely in-tune piano, and from there I was able to digitize the recording and then burn it to a CD from my computer.
When I shared the music book with my friend at the piano store, I had no expectations that anyone would ever want to play my music, let alone pay money for it.
Little did I know that with that one visit, it would turn into an invitation to bring 10 copies of the book to the store, which were then sold to their customers. A few weeks later, another phone call came, requesting more books because people enjoyed the music and wanted to know how they could order more copies.
Composing music became a hobby for the next 10 years. I continued to package music together and print additional books of Christmas songs, hymns, and even original songs. The sale of the books was just enough to cover the printing costs and motivate me to continue the effort to write another song which might help someone.
Thinking of that critical moment in time, I sometimes wonder if I would have ever created a second book if I had not been encouraged by my friend to continue writing down my music. I will forever be grateful to those early piano teachers and piano stores who offered words of encouragement to a young, inexperienced pianist, who dropped out of his university music program after three days! At that time, my only goal was to share music which I wished someone had created for me, that sounded hard but was easy enough to play without having to practice too much.
Fast forward 20 years and it is incredible to see that my music has been streamed, shared, and played well over 100 million times. This is now my 17th music book. There have been nearly 100,000 copies of my music books shared and shipped to piano players all over the world. The hymn arrangements in those books have blessed the lives of congregations of all faiths throughout the world.
This book of hymns is a continuation of my desire to continue sharing great melodies and to help people learn to enjoy playing piano.
