This is a digital PDF Sheet music for the song “Teach Me Thy Way, O Lord” from the piano solo book “Sacred Piano Hymns 6” by Jason Tonioli.
Side Notes: This song was written in 1919, just after the composer’s son was committed to a mental hospital and then passed away. As I read the words to this hymn, I could see it was a humble prayer of someone who was seeking the will of the Lord and pleading for Him to teach and help them understand His ways. At the end of the song I added additional lyrics that kept coming to my mind as the tune played over and over in my head. I think it fits and describes how I feel when looking for answers to my own prayers.
Many times when we pray, we might think we know what we want or need but we don’t always get the answer in a way we think it should come, or receive it at the exact time when we think God should answer our prayer. Often times it takes weeks, months or even years to be able to look back at a situation or our path and see that God has actually answered a prayer in the way that was best for us. Unfortunately for some, they come to the conclusion that God doesn’t answer prayers, only to find years later whether in this life or the life to come that prayers were being answered through “unanswered” prayers in ways that were best for us to be able to learn and grow. If we could only be more patient and trusting in a loving Father in Heaven who cares about each of His children.
